The Esplanade Bar & Restaurant

62-64 Bath St, Edinburgh EH15 1HF, UK – 0131 669 0082

On Saturday night we made a large booking of over 30 which Espy handled with consummate ease. The food was truly excellent and they handled our large order of both starters and mains in timely fashion. On top of that it was one of our group's birthday: Espy rustled up a Fudge Cake for us that made the occasion very special. Many thanks to Amanda and her staff.

I went here with some friends over the weekend and, while the food was very good, I felt that the service could be improved. We waited near 1.5 hours for our food and when it was delivered, I was served the wrong thing. The waitress didn't offer any sort of solution (the correct dish or the dish removed from our bill) and seemed a bit dismayed when I called it to her attention. All in all, we were there for over 2.5 hours and scarcely saw our waitress. I do not think she was to blame, as the place appeared to be short staffed. I really wanted to like this place as it is dog friendly and my pup enjoys walking on the beach nearby, but I am not sure we will be back given our recent experience.

Radical Road pub

229 Willowbrae Rd, Edinburgh EH8 7ND, UK – 0131 656 6821

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, great music

Friendly bar staff. Lounge has a lovely view of Arthur's Seat especially as the sun goes down.

Guild of Foresters

40 Portobello High St, Edinburgh EH15 1DA, UK – 0131 669 2750

Decent menu. Nice decor. Very on trend. Colouring for kids. Burgers are too big so could do with working on portion sizing. It's not fun to eat a burger when it's contents are slipping out all over the place. Tasty though. Good work, guys.

Great selection of beers, friendly staff and good food. This has been a great addition to Portobello since it opened. The wee beach huts in the beer garden out back are a great idea, but can be spoiled a bit as this is also the smoking area (though smoking isn't allowed in the huts).

Pizza Express

Leisure Quarter, Fort Kinnaird Shopping Centre, Edinburgh EH15 3RD, UK – 0131 669 9888

Much needed in the area, good pizza and handy location. If you are going on the weekend - book. Gets VERY busy. Good for take away if you live in the area. Staff have always been great. Kids love watching the pizza kitchen.

Food was good and the staff were great. Very busy on a Saturday afternoon, booking advised.

Chiquito

Unit A3E North Quarter, Fort Kinnaird Shopping Centre, Kinnaird Park, Edinburgh EH15 3RD, UK – 0131 669 3315

The service was fantastic the waiter could not have been anymore helpful and the food was spot on, drinks were lovely, no complaints whatsoever, I highly recommend this place. I hope this standard continues.

Food is good but service is invariably slow. The servers however are friendly and accommodating.

Nando's Edinburgh - Fort Kinnaird

Unit B, Fort Kinnaird Retail Park, Edinburgh EH15 3RD, UK – 0131 657 2625

So I haven't been here often since I thought they only did chicken but turns out they have vegan options and even a folder which confirms which meals are and which aren't which was great! So the food was brilliant and it wasn't to expensive. My only thing is that the wait is very long (I phoned well ahead and still had a good wait), as it's very busy and there didn't seem to be any people bringing the food out as by the kitchen area there were so many plates of food just sitting there, and I'm pretty sure the whole time I was waiting my take away meal was sitting there as it wasn't as hot when I got it. Thankfully my meal wasn't dependant on being hot so still tasted great but just keep that in mind when you order.

Fantastic food. Always hot and fresh. The same great tast as every time.

Mint Indian Takeaway

64 Portobello High St, Edinburgh EH15 1AN, UK – 0131 669 9211

Just recently moved into the area and this was our first choice at an Indian Takeaway - Wow, just doesn't describe it, the decor of the premises itself blew me away, magnificent, as for the staff, very warm and welcoming and extremely helpful when trying to choose what to order, we left with a feast and at such amazing prices too. Portion sizes were very good compared to other takeaways I have ordered from, and the food was in my opinion, "Yummalicious" - the batter in the pakora starter .. drooooool ! I would highly recommend that everyone try this place at least once, You will be blown away - Fabulous and will be returning !

Great food

Shahi Manzil

157 Willowbrae Rd, Edinburgh EH8 7JB, UK – 0131 661 0441

The food was good and hot. Good service. But it was a bit plain.

Just had first takeaway from here, 10/10, the food was delicious and the sauces were the best I've had. This is based on one delivery but if the second one is like the first then there will be another review up here soon.

Wine Bars and Cocktail Bars

The Ball Room Sports Bar

25 Jocks Lodge, Edinburgh EH8 7AA, UK – 0131 661 1288

Been coming here on and off over the years since it was JP's snooker club. Atmosphere is definitely more casual now, darts, American pool, a decent place for some games and pints with mates. But have to say this is the worst incarnation. Food choice not great, pint was iffy and definitely didn't have the buzz it used to as the Angle club or the New Yorker.

Went on a sunday afternoon, great family vibe, good food and the footy was on. Really enjoyable experience.
